It is required that the _i_n_s_i_g_h_t__b_a_s_e product be installed. In particular, the _i_n_s_i_g_h_t__b_a_s_e._s_w._e_o_e subsystem. If you install SGIHelp (the Help system, _i_n_s_i_g_h_t._s_w._s_g_i_h_e_l_p) then you must also install _x__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _m_o_t_i_f__e_o_e._s_w._e_o_e, _w_e_b_v_i_e_w_e_r._s_w._e_o_e, _w_e_b_s_u_p_p_o_r_t__e_o_e._s_w._l_i_b, and _V_i_e_w_K_i_t__e_o_e._s_w._b_a_s_e for the viewer to function properly. 2.5 _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y It is important to note that as of release 5.0 (shipped with IRIX 6.5.17), the tools and processes available in the InSight product family can no longer read the older format of the books (pre-IRIX 6.5.17). Many of the tools (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n, _s_g_i_h_e_l_p, _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h) will produce a warning that identifies these "older" books and indicates that they need to be updated or converted. Information on converting - 3 - "older" books to the newer format is found in these release notes. As of release 5.0 (shipped with IRIX 6.5.17), accessing books that are mounted from a system on an earlier version of IRIX (pre-IRIX 6.5.17) is not recommended as the underlying book format of the earlier versions is not compatible with the current (version 5.0 and beyond) tools. The tools will flag those books as being incompatible and will request that you perform an update or conversion. Conversely, you can mount the "newer" format books (IRIX 6.5.17 and beyond) on earlier versions of IRIX and they will work, but it is not recommended as these books are now in an HTML format (derived from XML). Finally, you should encounter no problems accessing (mounting) the "newer" format books (IRIX 6.5.17 and beyond) from/to machines on IRIX 6.5.17 (and beyond). 2.6 _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n Important: Please read the next sections carefully. They detail installation and configuration information specific to this product. First, we define a few terms. A bbbbooooooookkkksssshhhheeeellllffff is defined as a directory containing a set of books. By default, bookshelves are located in: ////uuuussssrrrr////sssshhhhaaaarrrreeee////IIIInnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt////lllliiiibbbbrrrraaaarrrryyyy////SSSSGGGGIIII____bbbbooooooookkkksssshhhheeeellllvvvveeeessss To examine a sample bookshelf, look under this default path. Most of the directories contained under this area are defined as bookshelves. By convention, below each of those bookshelf directories exists a subdirectory named "_b_o_o_k_s". This subdirectory contains all available _o_n_l_i_n_e _b_o_o_k_s for this bookshelf. For example, examining the path: ////uuuussssrrrr////sssshhhhaaaarrrreeee////IIIInnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt////lllliiiibbbbrrrraaaarrrryyyy////SSSSGGGGIIII____bbbbooooooookkkksssshhhheeeellllvvvveeeessss////SSSSGGGGIIII____EEEEnnnnddddUUUUsssseeeerrrr////bbbbooooooookkkkssss////DDDDeeeesssskkkkttttoooopppp____UUUUGGGG SSSSGGGGIIII____EEEEnnnnddddUUUUsssseeeerrrr is the bookshelf, DDDDeeeesssskkkkttttoooopppp____UUUUGGGG is the book, and everything under ////uuuussssrrrr////sssshhhhaaaarrrreeee////IIIInnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt////lllliiiibbbbrrrraaaarrrryyyy is defined as your online documentation library. - 4 - 2.7 _C_o_n_v_e_r_t_i_n_g__O_l_d_e_r__F_o_r_m_a_t__B_o_o_k_s It is important to note that as of release 5.0 (shipped with IRIX 6.5.17), the tools and processes available in the InSight product family can no longer read the older format of the books (pre-IRIX 6.5.17). Many of the tools (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n, _s_g_i_h_e_l_p, _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h) will produce a warning that identifies these "older" books and indicates that they need to be updated or converted. The _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n tool allows you to perform this conversion and is designed to work upon the bookshelves contained within your online documentation library. If you encounter warnings from the various online documentation tools (_i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n, _s_g_i_h_e_l_p, _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h) such as "<book> cannot be read and needs to be converted" or "<book> appears to be in old/unreadable format", you can use the _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n tool to perform the conversion for you. Note: You can find which books require conversion using _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n. Within a shell window, as root, type: iiiinnnnssssiiiigggghhhhttttAAAAddddmmmmiiiinnnn ----vvvv Look for those books (and bookshelves) that report the aforementioned warning message. _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n has two options related to this function. The ----cccc option instructs _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n to convert any books on the specified bookshelf that cannot be read (old format books). By default, this conversion is accomplished by sending the book through a local filtering process. Optionally, downloading the "packaged" book(s) from the SSSSiiiilllliiiiccccoooonnnn GGGGrrrraaaapppphhhhiiiiccccssss TTTTeeeecccchhhhnnnniiiiccccaaaallll PPPPuuuubbbblllliiiiccccaaaattttiiiioooonnnnssss LLLLiiiibbbbrrrraaaarrrryyyy website (http://techpubs.sgi.com) can be initiated if the ----dddd option is specified. If (for some reason) the download fails, then the local filtering process is still attempted upon the book(s) that encountered problems. The _g_e_t_u_r_l(_1) command is used in conjunction with the ----dddd option. Note that if you utilize a proxy server, the communication library _g_e_t_u_r_l(_1) employs may need to be configured properly. This can be done through the _w_e_b_c_o_n_t_r_o_l panel. See the man page for _w_e_b_c_o_n_t_r_o_l(_1) for details. Note that this conversion stage may take some time and should be used with caution. The amount of time varies with the number and size of the book(s) that need to be - 5 - converted. The local filtering phase could take from 1 to 3 minutes per book. A system administrator may wish to perform this operation during off-peak system times, perhaps utilizing _c_r_o_n(_1_M) to schedule the command (or another such job scheduler). The following are examples of using _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n to perform the conversion procedure. +o This example converts any old format books on the SSSSGGGGIIII____EEEEnnnnddddUUUUsssseeeerrrr bookshelf using the local filtering process only: ////uuuussssrrrr////ssssbbbbiiiinnnn////iiiinnnnssssiiiigggghhhhttttAAAAddddmmmmiiiinnnn ----cccc ////uuuussssrrrr////sssshhhhaaaarrrreeee////IIIInnnnssssiiiigggghhhhtttt////lllliiiibbbbrrrraaaarrrryyyy////SSSSGGGGIIII____bbbbooooooookkkksssshhhheeeellllvvvveeeessss////SSSSGGGGIIII____EEEEnnnnddddUUUUsssseeeerrrr +o This example converts any old format books on the SSSSGGGGIIII____EEEEnnnnddddUUUUsssseeeerrrr bookshelf by first attempting to download the converted book(s) from techpubs.sgi.com. If for any reason you believe the tools do not reflect the books installed on your system (in particular, this could happen if a book or books have been removed by a means other than using the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command), you can invoke the _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n tool on a specific bookshelf (or all bookshelves) to correct the situation. See the man page for _i_n_s_i_g_h_t_A_d_m_i_n for more details. ssssuuuu iiiinnnnssssiiiigggghhhhttttAAAAddddmmmmiiiinnnn ----vvvv
